A Mevagissey resident has been awarded a ‘Chairman's Gonk’ by the chairman of Cornwall Council for going above and beyond for their community.
Charlie Clayton was put forward for the award by Mevagissey and St Austell Bay Cornwall councillor James Mustoe.
Pauline Giles, chairman of Cornwall Council, was delighted to be able to present Charlie with his award recently.
Cllr Mustoe said: "I was delighted to pop along to St Andrew's Toddler Group with Cllr Giles to present Charlie Clayton with one of Pauline's Chairman's Gonks.
“Pauline has given these civic awards out to people across Cornwall since taking office, and they recognise people who have gone above and beyond for their community.
“Since I've known Charlie he has been a key figure in: Re-opening Mevagissey Youth Football Club; Running and massively expanding Mevagissey Youth Club; Becoming a director of Mevagissey Activity Centre and working incredibly hard to try to turn this incredible community resource around.
“Charlie is a fine example of someone who has moved into the area, rolled up their sleeves and become a vital, positive and pro-active member of the community, just getting on with the job and is making a real difference.
“Thank you to the local people who nominates him, and well done Charlie!"
