THE ARSON of a bin in the skatepark which has been the subject of repeated incidents has been condemned by the town’s mayor.
Holsworthy Fire Station said it had been called out to reports of a bin alight at the skatepark in the town, adding that it was the second time the bin had been deliberately torched.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our appliance was mobilised to a bin on fire at the skatepark. This is the second time recently the bin has been deliberately set alight.
“The first fire was not reported. Thankfully someone spotted this fire and called 999 this evening so we could prevent it from spreading or escalating further.”
In response to the report, the mayor of Holsworthy said he was “frustrated and angry” at the damage, adding that the town council are working towards installing CCTV overlooking the site.
Cllr Nigel Kenneally said: “I am incredibly frustrated and angry that another fire has been started in the skatepark bin.
“Not only does it waste valuable fire service resources but also costs the tax payer money. Holsworthy Town Council are working with Devon County Council to install CCTV cameras on one of the street lights up at the skatepark.
“Hopefully this will deter the mindless vandalism that has been occurring recently.”
