LAUNCESTON Community Market has pledged its support to a local Scout who is fundraising for a trip of a lifetime.
Arthur Ivey, a young man from Launceston, and some Scouting friends, have been selected from the Cornwall Scouts Group to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree.
This year the Jamboree will be held in South Korea and Arthur needs to raise £4,000 to attend. He has been making all sorts of fundraising efforts.
When he gets to South Korea, Arthur and Scouting colleagues from across the world, will be not just attending the Jamboree but also doing lots of things to help the local population and society in Saemangeum. The whole purpose of the Jamboree is to help the world unite and give aid to each other as and when required.
Many people who’ve been to previous World Scout Jamborees – whether adults or young people – happily talk about a ‘life-changing experience’.
Scouts get to see new things, meet new people, and are immersed in the true worldwide family of Scouts. One of the objectives is to ensure everyone who is part of the journey grows as a person and brings back new skills and ideas to make a lasting impression on their local scouting group and community.
Arthur said: “I am so delighted to be able to attend his life-changing event where I will learn a lot and give as much as I can.”
Paul Jellyman, from the market, says: “I am insanely jealous! As a Scout 55 years ago I really wanted to go to a Jamboree but never made it! I’m sure Arthur will have a brilliant time and represent the West Country very well.”
Recently, the community market in Launceston was delighted to donate £200 to this very worthwhile cause and especially pleased that this now takes Arthur to his target.
The Market meets every Friday in Central Methodist Church and would welcome any suggestions for the next charity or good cause.
