A CAMELFORD family had a lucky escape after attempts were made to set fire to their property while they were asleep upstairs, writes Suzanne Cleave. Adam Wallbank and Kimmy Wallace live in the property in Fore Street, Camelford, with their seven-year-old daughter.
The incident took place between 11pm on Tuesday, January 24 and 7.45am the following morning — while the family slept upstairs.
Adam and Kimmy woke on the Wednesday morning to discover that cement plaster had been poured down the stairs inside the property, which opens out onto the pavement and street.
Nearby, a pot of fire cement had been set alight alongside a cardboard box.
These were all materials owned by Adam, who is currently in the process of renovating the house.
Adam told the 'Post' that the culprits set fire to a pot of putty, but it was fire cement and not flammable, but he said: "In the dark of the night, I don't suppose they knew that."
The container of cement plaster did not have a label on it, but it appears to have been poured over the wooden stairs with the intent of setting light to them.
Police forensic officers have visited the scene and have taken away some findings for further tests.
