THE 1st Holsworthy Scout and Guide HQ has received a refreshing makeover thanks to local chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards.
As part of its ongoing commitment to volunteering in the local community, the firm’s Holsworthy staff spent a day out of the office painting, decorating and giving a new lease of life to the joint Scout and Guide HQ.
A team of nine spent the day painting the interior walls and window frames of the HQ before turning their attention to the exterior of the building — clearing gutters, paths and removing a large pile of wood.
Organised with the help of Pauline Masters, group Scout leader for 1st Holsworthy Scouts — who provided tea, coffee and cake — the day resulted in the transformation of the building and its grounds.
Jo Tope, partner at Simpkins Edwards’ Holsworthy office, said: “It has been great to hear so many complimentary comments from parents, Scouts and Guides about how much nicer the HQ now looks. It’s this kind of feedback that makes our local community volunteering days so rewarding.”
She added: “The icing on the cake was Pauline thanking the team publicly at the group’s recent AGM. She even sent a thank you card and box of chocolates to show the Scout group’s gratitude for all our hard work, which went down very well in the office.”
The Scout and Guide’s HQ makeover is just one of the many volunteering days that Simpkins Edwards is participating in during 2019. From litter picks and tree planting, to pulling up Himalayan Balsam and clearing the irrigation system with Tale Valley Trust, staff from Simpkins Edwards will be out and about across the county, making a positive difference to local communities.
