SURREY Highways has been criticised for endangering the lives of children and other vulnerable pedestrians after councillors dismissed a second application for 43 new homes at Baker Oates Stables in The Bourne this week.
Focus Homes' first application to build the estate on a six-acre densely wooded site off Gardener's Hill Road was refused in January by Waverley Borough Council's head of planning Matthew Evans before reaching the committee stage.
The developer immediately returned with a new application, promising several highways improvements including a new bus stop and a painted three-feet wide strip in Gardener's Hill Road for the shared use of pedestrians and cyclists.
