THE Lions club of Holsworthy had another bumper result as they collected more than 50 Christmas trees from the local area, raising funds for charity.
On behalf of the club a spokesperson said: “We had a successful day, Sunday, January 7, collecting Christmas trees. We collected a total of 54 trees raising £240 for local charities.
“Some of the collected trees went to a local goat farm, and some were chipped ready to be reused as something else. Goats love Christmas trees, they eat the pines and bark off all the trees leaving nothing left.
“Thank you to Jordan Martin for driving around collecting more trees and to Amy Lethbridge for organising the collection. As well as all the Lions that helped on the day.”
Explaining more about what the Lions have planned for the upcoming year, Amy Lethbridge said: “We are Holsworthy District Lions Club, a small club but hoping to make a big impact this year.
“We have recently fundraised by organising bingos, raffles, bucket shakes and BBQs. All this money has gone to local charities such as Holsworthy Mutual Aid and Holsworthy Rural Community Transport. Other money has gone into our charity funds used for the wider community when in need of money. We are always looking for new members. We have a wide range of ages, our oldest being 80 and youngest being 23.
“Please get in touch with us if you are interested in becoming a member and fundraising with us.”
