WHEELS are in motion to introduce 'bare necessities' to Lydney's Oakdale estate – much to the relief of residents.

Company director of land developers MMC, Barry Holmes answered questions about the much-needed footpath, traffic calming measures, completion of small play areas and a bus link into town.

He followed up a query regarding a mound of grass on Kier/MMC land which is 'attracting youngsters' with a visit to the area.

A spokesperson for Bromford, who organised the drop-in session, said: "Mr Holmes advised that MMC had recently made a revised submission for the bus link from Oakdale (Cambourne Place) to Lydney and this is now being assessed by Gloucestershire County Council.

"An update on all these issues will be included in a newsletter to be sent to all residents by Base Estates who will also address the maintenance of communal areas.

"We are working with our customers who have reported issues with flooding on a case-by-case basis. Private residents should contact Kier and Rooftop customers should contact their landlord. We can also confirm that Royal Mail has confirmed Lydney Town Council's application for a post box which will be installed soon."

A survey feedback by Bromford customers reportedly said they would 'recommend Oakdale to a friend' and they 'like the look of the scheme' and feel 'very safe' living there.

Campaigner Jessica Lane said: "The meeting was good and the plans sound promising if they come to any avail. I found Fiona at Bromford very helpful and spoke to Barry who outlined his plans for a path. He said that the shortcut 'couldn't be filled' as it's unclaimed land and if anybody got injured then MMC would be held responsible.

"He wants to create a three-way link from phase one to phase two which also links to the road at Lakeside Avenue. I'm very happy about this and hopefully it will go ahead and my petitioning has paid off.

"I do hope that if they build phase two they sort out the flooding issues at Lakeside Avenue first. Also Barry said if he gets planning permission for phase two he will build more children's play areas which he says will be linked to the other phases by a cycle path."

Also present was Lydney Town Council, Rooftop, the police, street wardens and Base Estates who are the new management company.
