A BANK Holiday getaway didn't go off to plan for a Mitcheldean man who was smacked with a £90 parking ticket before he had even left the Forest.

Nicholas Hale visited Lidl, in Cinderford, in his motor home and was horrified to discover by taking up two parking spaces – 'through no choice' – he had been served with a £90 parking charge notice.

He said: "The car park was fairly busy, but not full, the problem was that I could not find a space to fit the motor home. I drove around the car park twice and the only place I could park without blocking anything was by using two spaces. I was only in the store around ten minutes – most of that was taken up waiting at the checkout - and came out to find the parking attendant putting a £90 parking ticket on my motor home for using two spaces.

"The motor home will not fit in one space so what was I to do – not shop at Lidl? There are no signs that say cars only. The management are not interested and say the car park is nothing to do with them as it is managed Euro Car Parks.

"I have paid the ticket, which was £50 if paid within 14 days of issue, but I am still livid. I hope no other motor home owner has the same problem."

Lidl say they encourage any genuine Lidl customers who have received a parking charge notice to get in touch on 0800 977 7766.

A spokesperson said: "Customers should then just provide us with proof of purchase and we will appeal the charge on their behalf. Customers, who have special requirements and may have difficulty with the parking restrictions in place, should also get in touch with our customer services team who will find a solution to their car parking needs."

Euro Car Parks failed to comment before the Review went to press.
