The Saturday, November 11, ceremony outdoors at the Triangle in Bude, was one of the best I have attended.
Plenty of veterans and lots of others gathered from 10.30am, both on the grass and on the pavement on a fine dry morning.
The traffic was stopped in good time and the vicar Debbie Marsh said some very pertinent and moving words. The lady bugler was almost perfect – best of all, the last note was immediately followed by the sound of the clock striking 11. The two minutes silence was indeed silent.
Sunday’s wet weather did not deter the crowds, who gathered to watch the parade and march past. Bude did it all very well – whether veterans, spectators or patient motorists.
