AN elderly resident of the threatened Cobgates care home in Farnham has begun legal action against Surrey County Council in a bid to overturn its decision to close her home.

Margaret Bennett, 99, and her family have accused Surrey of breaching several fundamental Human Rights in seeking to close the home in Falkner Road and blame the council for the death of Margaret's friend and long-time Cobgates resident Joan Smith.

In March, Surrey County Council's cabinet agreed to close all six of its remaining in-house care homes over the next three years after ruling they are no longer able to meet modern standards.
