LAUNCESTON'S only night club has closed down for good after 16 years.

Rumours — as it was known in more recent years — situated on the Pennygillam Industrial Estate, opened for the final time on Friday evening, before closing for the in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The following unsigned message has been posted on the club's Facebook website: "Sorry to say Rumours is now closed. I would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who supported us over the past years.

"After 16 years of the shed, it is a shame it had to end, but to all of you who have loved, hated and married due to your night in the shed, thank you.

"And this is a final good night to you all and thankyou for coming xxxx."

The linked Rumours Night Club at Market Street, Okehampton, has also closed, and the following unsigned message has been left on the Facebook website: "Rumours Nightclub Okehampton is now closed. Thanks to everyone, both customers and staff, we've had some good times!"

Other local businesses that could be affected by the closure include fast food outlets and taxi services in the town.
