THE Launceston Town Plan Group has launched a new ‘Safer Greener Streets’ consultation following an additional funding boost.
The funding has been allocated from Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund. The Community Capacity Fund is part of the Good Growth Programme, which is delivering the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.
In a bid to enhance the town’s public realm, celebrate its cultural heritage, encourage more people into town and fortify resilience to climate change, the Launceston Town Plan Group (LTPG) is set to kick off a comprehensive consultation for the Safer Greener Streets project
The group, buoyed by an additional £24,999 secured in December through the Good Growth Fund, is building on the £99,950 allocated in 2022 through Cornwall Council’s Vitality of Towns Programme.
The initial funding responded to public surveys, reflecting community calls for investment in more green spaces, signage, and pedestrian-friendly environments. With the maximum grant awarded, the LTPG conducted an in-depth feasibility study and developed concept plans aimed at increasing dwell time and preparing the town for future long-term funding opportunities.
Starting from February 6 to 26, the five-week consultation period will engage the community through display and comment boards, workshops, focus groups, children’s competitions, and surveys, both online and in print. The LTPG, in collaboration with Place Architects and Launceston Life, will focus on identifying key areas to further transform the town positively.
The consultation begins with an online survey available on the Launceston Town Plan Group’s website, complemented by consultation boards at Launceston Library and Place Architects.
A comprehensive awareness campaign, including a flyer distribution, town posters, and permanent/pop-up boards across town, along with collaboration with Launceston Life, aims to ensure widespread participation.
The LTPG encourages the community to fill out the online survey for maximum impact. While social media comments and conversations are valued, the group emphasises the importance of survey participation for a comprehensive understanding of public opinion. Printed versions of the survey are available upon request.
Annette Baskerville-Smith chair of the Launceston Town Plan Group said: “We look forward to hearing your views and seeing you at one of our many events over the next five weeks. In the meantime, for any inquiries or to request a printed version of the survey, feel free to contact the Town Plan Group via email at [email protected].”
