Students in Launceston had a ‘wheelie’ good time this week as they learned about some sustainable ways to travel to school.
Children at Windmill Hill Academy were visited by Ashlea from Sustrans – a walking, wheeling and cycling charity, and the custodian of the National Cycle Network.
Ashlea led a whole school assembly and carried or workshops for Year 3, 4 and 5, teaching students about sustainability and sustainable travel, and the positive impact it has on our environment.
Ashlea’s visit hopes to help the school support the ‘Launceston Clean Air’ Project, a Sustrans initiative which aims to get young people to cycle, scooter and walk more.
Mrs Abby Bassett, head of school at Windmill Hill said: “We look forward to continuing to work with Ashlea and on the project. Well done to the pupils, despite the weather, who managed to walk, cycle or scoot.
“Let’s see if we can all make one small change to have a positive impact on the planet by challenging ourselves to walk, cycle or scoot to school at least once a week!”
