LAUNCESTON College has relaunched its post 16 offer with a new name and slogan in the hope of ‘better reflecting its ethos’.
Going forward, Years 12 and 13 at the college will be known as Launceston Sixth, which will also be brandishing a new slogan: ‘Exceptional Teaching Exceptional Experience’.
The college, which is a part of the Athena Learning Trust, decided to go ahead with the rebrand as their sixth form offer has changed significantly over the last two years.
Staff felt that revamping the name and language around Launceston Sixth to better reflect their academic ethos was a natural step.
Launceston College’s A Level students celebrated a 100 per cent pass rate back in August with 34 per cent of passes an A* or A and 70 per cent of passes being an A*-B. Leavers went on to a range of destinations from the University of Oxford, to taking up coveted degree apprenticeships at companies like Babcock International.
Following the rebrand, Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College said: “I know that Launceston Sixth has been on a journey and that staff and students have worked hard to reach new academic heights. We aim to provide a challenging, supportive, caring and enjoyable learning environment that encourages young people and allows them to develop their individual talents.
“We motivate students to flourish and progress as an individual, to achieve their potential and progress successfully to their future career through university or employment.”
The school has stated that it aims to provide both excellent academic and pastoral support, and ‘treat students as adults and provide private study facilities exclusively for Year 12s and 13s’.
The site also aims for staff to help students to work independently and develop the self motivation they will need to thrive in the workplace.
Following an inspection last year, Ofsted rated Launceston Sixth ‘Good’ and inspectors commented that the ‘journey of life’ curriculum for sixth formers prepares them well for their increasing independence.
The newly named ‘Launceston Sixth’ is holding an open evening on Thursday, November 14, from 6pm to 8pm.
