Police officers in the Launceston sector have recently nominated colleagues who they feel in the last year have selflessly carried out their duty to the benefit of their communities and their fellow officers, to win the Terry Groves award.
Until his passing in February 2018, Terry Groves was a well-known PCSO, living and working within the Camelford area for many years and known as an officer who epitomised the ethos of neighbourhood policing.
Terry always sought to positively encourage his communities to connect with each other with the goal of making Camelford and the surrounding villages a safer and better place to live.
In recognition of Terry’s contribution, officers within the Launceston sector created ‘The Terry Groves Award’, to be presented each year to the individual who selflessly carries out their duty to the benefit of their communities and their fellow officers.
This year the award has been given to PC Colin Taylor, who said, after winning the award: “I am very humbled to have won this award, more so as it was my own colleagues who nominated me.”
PC Taylor hopes to carry on maintaining the high standards of policing he has set for himself and for his colleagues. He said: “I look forward to continuing to be a part of the North Cornwall policing team for years to come.”
The award is engraved with the words ‘For the assistance of all, at the expense of yourself’. This is based on the Force’s motto contained within the Force crest — ‘In Auxilium Omnium’.
The late Terry Groves was the first recipient of the award when it was presented to him on November 16, 2017.
Speaking about the award, Insp Lynden Hughes said: “These nominations were submitted confidentially. It was quite inspiring to read the regard that those individuals nominated were held in by their colleagues.
“The recipient of the Terry Groves Award 2018 is PC Colin Taylor. He has received the award for his selfless attitude, for helping his colleagues without question, for displaying incredible drive in bringing offenders to justice and consistently displaying professionalism of the highest possible standard.”
