PAULINE Darby, of Launceston, is to become a Lay Canon at Truro Cathedral on March 13.

Born in South Yorkshire in the winter after the end of World War Two, Pauline grew up in a practising Christian household, sustained in her faith particularly by her mother and godmother, and as an older teenager was a Sunday School teacher.

After marrying George Darby, another practising Christian in 1970, she then attended Rotherham Parish Church for three years becoming actively involved in parish life before moving to Gloucester in 1973.

Whilst in Gloucester, Pauline attended the Young Wives Group and after the birth of her first daughter became a member of the Mothers' Union in 1975. Pauline was also on the committee of the Children's Society whilst in Gloucester, and did some administrative work in the parish.
