A COMMUNITY group made sure their bank holiday Monday did not go to waste recently as they took to the streets to ensure their town remained clean and tidy.
Launceston in Bloom organised a community litter pick around the town on bank holiday Monday. Armed with their pickers and plenty of bags, a group of 15 cheerful volunteers turned up to brave an early downpour to pick up litter around the town centre, along Western Road and down St Thomas Road to Newport Industrial Estate.
Event organiser Georgie Adams, commented: “Our volunteer gardening group Launceston in Bloom was helped by members from Launceston u3a, Lanson WI and Lions.”
Georgie explained that the group were shocked by the amount of rubbish that they collected from the streets.
She continued: “We collected 10 full sacks of rubbish! It's so sad that some think it's okay to drop litter but this was a very worthwhile couple of hours spent cleaning up our lovely town.
“My thanks to all those who took part, to the helpful folk at Biffa Waste Management, Bodmin for supplying the equipment and collecting refuse, and to Clean Cornwall for registering this event.”
