LAUNCESTON based flooring specialist Premier Carpet have been awarded the contract to replace the carpet in Launceston's 130 year old town hall with a specially commissioned Cornish Tartan as part of a £1 million pound refurbishment program.

A £1 million grant was awarded to the listed Victorian Gothic Town Hall in Launceston earlier this year to enable facilities to be improved whilst maintaining the historical features of the building.

Premier Carpet, based on the Newport Industrial Estate in Launceston, was contracted to fit the carpets and flooring throughout the town hall including sanding and lacquering the floors in the main hall and installing a Cornish Tartan carpet in the new bar and reception areas. After first sanding and lacquering the original floorboards in the main hall and on the stage.

The one-off carpet was designed and manufactured by Axminster Carpets, one of the UK's leading carpet makers. Whilst already very aesthetically pleasing the Cornish Tartan also incorporates the exact same colour blue as the town hall's clock face, which can be seen through a newly installed glass roof over the covered walkway.
