Launceston will soon be host to this year’s North Cornwall Dance Festival later this month, as the festival welcomes dancers from across the country to the town.

The dance festival is coming to Launceston from February 15, for four days, as amateur performers from across the country take to the stage and display their talents at St. Joseph’s School, who also sponsor the event.

More than 300 performers from as young as three, all the way to 19 will be performing in a range of disciplines including, ballet, contemporary, tap, modern and street, in almost 700 performances, competing for in solos or in groups for bronze, silver and gold medals and even trophies for the very best.

Speaking about the event’s national draw, a spokesperson for the festival said: “We have almost 25 different dance schools entered, some from as far away as London and Penzance. They include, local ballet school Nicky Brice Ballet School, based in Launceston, Ohana Academy of Performing Arts from London, Jason Thomas Dance Schools who have performed every year since we started and many more.”

This year’s adjudicator is Jacquie Brunjes, wife of Harry Brunjes, CEO of English National Opera. Jacquie is the current chair of All England Dance and runs her own dance festival in Sussex.

A spokesperson continued: “Everyone who performs gets a Well Done medal and certificate of achievement as we believe that it’s important to reward the hard work that has gone in to preparing each dance.”
