A COHORT of North Cornwall students have been learning about how to stay safe behind the wheel thanks to a critical road safety education event hosted by Learn2Live.

Groups of Year 12 A-Level students from Launceston College, part of Athena Learning Trust, recently met with a variety of organisations to talk about road safety and particularly how how to be a safe driver.

The talk was led by Learn2Live, an organisation focused on raising awareness of the dangers young drivers face.

The presentation, aimed at students aged 16-19, was led by a coalition of experts including Local Authority Road Safety Teams, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance, and Devon Air Ambulance.

The event was designed to engage young people—who are statistically among the highest risk groups for road traffic collisions—and help them understand the specific dangers and consequences associated with driving.

A spokesperson from Launceston College said: “Students gained invaluable insights into how their actions on the road can impact their safety and the safety of others.

“The event is part of a wider initiative to equip young drivers with the knowledge and skills they need to make responsible decisions behind the wheel. Launceston College is proud to support such programs and looks forward to continuing its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students.”

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College, added: “We are always looking for opportunities to provide our students with real-life learning experiences that enhance their understanding of important issues. The Learn2Live presentation was an eye-opening experience for our Year 12 students and a crucial reminder of the importance of safe driving. We’re grateful to the emergency services and partners who made this event possible.”
