A Launceston-based cafe transformed into a festive wonderland on November 29, hosting a heartwarming ‘Elf Day’ coffee and cake social gathering, writes Duncan Williams.
The event at Cafe Avodah in the Gateway Centre not only spread joy but also raised more than £260 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Teresa Pickup, the cafe manager, along with her trusty team including Raven Cheeseman and Chelo Bate, joined many other cafe regulars, creating a cheerful atmosphere that resonated with the spirit of giving.
Tracey Sleeman clinched victory in the guess the weight of the cake competition, showcasing a cleverly designed green elf’s hat cake, baked with skill by Louisa Kennedy.
It weighed just over 11lb and all agreed it tasted scrumptious.
In a gesture of kindness, Tracey donated half the cake to Launceston Hospital, extending the festive cheer beyond the cafe walls.
The event featured a delightful array of activities, including a cake stall with delectable treats and a Memory Tree where attendees hung cherished memories, paying tribute to those affected by Alzheimer’s.
The Cafe Avodah staff, adorned in their finest elf attire, added a touch of humour to the proceedings.
The community’s generosity shone through, creating a meaningful impact for a cause cherished by many.
The total funds raised now exceed £260, a testament to the collective spirit of goodwill.
All proceeds from the event continue to support the Alzheimer’s Society, ensuring that the festive season is not only about celebration but also about making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
