Camelford Primary School echoed to the sound of many familiar songs from Mary Poppins last week as the Year 6 pupils took part in a performance adapted by Year 6 teacher Louise Pooley. There were strong performances of the two alternative casts for all four shows when Mary Poppins, Bert and all the other well known characters were brought to life.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Sandie Smales went to a great deal of trouble to ensure as many authentic props and backdrops were used; the overall effect was super.

The school were particularly grateful to Paul Haynes of Sir James Smith's School (Camelford) and Simon James Discos for supplying the stage lighting when there were last minute problems. "It is wonderful to see the teamwork, the acting skills and hear the beautiful singing voices many of our children have," Mrs Carol Edleston, headteacher, explained. "We had so many compliments, I know it has made all the hard work worthwhile."

Former pupils and teachers of Camelford Primary School attended one performance, and everyone enjoyed sharing stories and experiences. This was truly a production the community, pupils, parents and staff will remember for many years to come. This was the final production at the school's current site before it moves to a new building on the grounds of the town's secondary school.
