KILKHAMPTON J&I School is a good school with outstanding features says a recent Ofsted inspection report.

The report recognised the school's clear vision and dedication to target and maintain improvements, the quality of teaching and learning, the harmonious ethos of the school and the enthusiasm of parents and children for their school.

One parent's return slip was quoted in the report: "There is a strong culture of caring, good behaviour, attention to detail, creativity and fun learning. It contributes immensely to the well-being of our children, our village and the wider community."

A group of children selected by the inspection team informed them that "our school is the best. We learn loads and have fun."

Headteacher Jane Adams was delighted with the report as she felt it was a true reflection of the school's current position and recognition for her excellent team.

She said: "Everyone involved with our school gives generously of their time in support of the most important people in our lives, children. I have always believed that working with children and their families is a privilege. Some are more challenging than others, but every child and every family has something special to offer.

"A teacher's job is to find the key to each child's learning, enthuse, support and nurture them, give them a broad range of experiences, have fun and 'watch them fly'."

The report also recognised the school's high standards in sports and arts — Activemark (4th year), Artsmark Gold, Football Development Award and Healthy Schools Award (3rd year), and its many community links that form firm foundations for the children as good citizens in the future.

The children's favourite link is with the National Trust, where they help lay hedges, collect acorns for the nursery, map rivers, beach clean, walk the coast path, build sculptures and shelters etc.

Margaret Gomez, chair of Governors stated: "Ours is a very special school. Tests and league tables may have their place but we prefer to celebrate the many and varied successes individual children have on their learning journey through Kilkhampton School."
