On Monday June 22 Launceston Seniors were at home to Newquay for a match due to start at 12 noon. At 11am the Newquay Captain was informed that one of his nominated team was in fact en-route for Australia. A phone call to a possible replacement was made and the player arrived just in time to make up a full team for the visitors.

Launceston were convincing winners 7-1 and again Captain Robin and his partner, John Mullins on this occasion led by example and produced the biggest winning margin of 7&6. Morley Brown (Club President ) and his partner Rodney Duke the only pair to lose. John Mullins won NTP for the home side but had to leave as soon as the meal was over to attend a club meeting, he passed his wine prize to Pat Johnston who also left almost immediately with the bottle in order to catch his lift home. This left the usual suspects who normally share the winnings to buy their own drinks.

Results: Robin Johnson (Cpt) & John Mullins won 7&6; Derek Davey & Pat Johnston won 3&2; Gerald Cramp (V/Cpt) & Tim Johnson won 2 up; Brian Ben-David & Peter Holland won 5&4; Morley Brown & Rodney Duke lost 2&1; Graham Nevitte & Brian Goble won 3&2; David Reynolds & Tony Bowden won 2&1; Derek Ratcliffe & Colin Butler won 3&2.

On Tuesday the 23rd 59 Seniors took part in a full handicap qualifier played in three divisions. In glorious weather and on a well prepared course good scores were obtained in all divisions. John Russell aided by Brian Ben-David carried out the administration as usual. He had only just called out 3rd and 2nd place winners in Division Three when a shout from his wife Rosemary reminded him he should include the points scored in his announcement. After the laughter had died down he began again, your dedication to the Tuesday competitions is well appreciated John, as well as the humour.

Despite a forecast of heavy and thundery rain in Devon on Friday the 26th the Seniors team made an early morning start to travel to Saunton Sands. Luckily the weather had moved NE by the time they got there and the match was played in excellent conditions on a well drained course.

As has become the norm this season Captain Robin, playing with Neville, set the example for his team by recording the largest difference namely 7 with 5 to play, unfortunately on this occasion it was a loss and his team followed suit leading to an overall result of 7½-½ in favour of the home side. This was not the end of Robin's woes as he had to sit through dinner in his golf shirt having not packed a replacement. Graham Nevitte won NTP for Launceston
