IT’S OFFICIAL, the ‘Welly Wanging World Record’ was broken at this year’s Holsworthy & Stratton Agricultural Show.

After several months anxiously waiting the results are in and the official confirmation was received on November 30 from The Guinness Book of Records that the welly wanging world record was indeed broken at the recent Holsworthy & Stratton Show. The number of wellies thrown in accordance to strict criteria, means that the new world record is 792.

The previous record was 636 wellies, but thanks to enthusiastic audience participation from the showgoers, the mass throw on August 23 means the previous record was smashed.

Ian Rolinson, member of the show committee, which organised the world record attempt, and commercial business manager for Mole Valley Farmers’ Holsworthy store, who sponsored the event, said: “It is great news to hear that we have broken the world record! The whole show committee is absolutely delighted! We were a bit worried that we might not get enough people participating on the day, but we had more than the 800 required and actually had to turn volunteers away, once all the wellies had been distributed!

“On the day those participating were counted into the main arena using a clicker, where they were ‘penned’ in groups of 50, each with their own steward, to ensure the numbers remained accurate.

“After the welly throw, all 800 were individually counted out again. The whole thing was filmed and the video sent to The Guinness Book of Record for verification. This is why there was the delay in knowing whether or not we had broken the world record”.

After the show the boots were repaired and donated to Launceston Rotary Club who will distribute them wherever they are required across the world.
