A VOLUNTEER driver, who has committed her time to taking people to local hospitals and the medical centre for 21 years in the Holsworthy area, has now retired.

Christine Williams started driving voluntarily in 1995 with Torridge Voluntary Services, and continued with North Tamar Community Transport Association when they took over in 2000, with their successor, Holsworthy Rural Community Transport Association, run by Martin Prentice.

Hearing that Christine was moving to Bude and on her retirement, Mr Prentice invited her to the Association’s office and presented her with a bouquet of flowers, which was greatly ‘appreciated’.

Christine said: “It’s been a real pleasure to be of service to local people, especially those who do not have ready access to transport.”

Mr Prentice said: “Christine is moving to Bude, and so will not be a volunteer driver for Holsworthy Rural Community Transport. She started driving way before community transport was set up, and says she has been driving for about 21 years, which is really remarkable.”
