HOLSWORTHY Youth Football Club recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary of continuous seasons at their Trophy Presentation in the Memorial Hall, Holsworthy.
Founder managers Chris Axford and Phil Chidley, alongside Holsworthy AFC's first team goalkeeper Dean Chidley presented trophies to over 100 boys and girls who play in the Kingsley Youth and North Devon Opticop Leagues. Dean is also celebrating his 20th year as a player having worked his way up through the youth teams and is now a regular in the first team squad. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all who attended.
Winners of the main trophies
Under-8s: Oliver Matthews (Most Improved), Jay Thomas and Joel Greening (Highest Goal Scorer) Kieran Langman (Player of the Year) Jay Thomas and Oliver Moores (Outstanding Players)
Under-9s: Josh Cousins (Most Improved), Jay Thomas (Highest Goal Scorer) and Jack Westlake (Player of the Year).
Under-11s: Alan Wood (Most Improved) Jacob Nosworthy (Highest Goal Scorer) Fraser Priest (Player of the Year) George Mitchell (Players' Player of the Year). A Football signed by all the Under-11s was presented to Amy Clarke who now goes on to play for the newly formed Holsworthy Under-13 Girls.
Under-12s: Nathan Lee (Most Improved) and Ned Oliver (Highest Goal Scorer and Player of the Year).
The Under-14s were still celebrating their victory over Bideford in The Plate Final when they won 4-2 on Penalties having drew 2 – 2 after extra time and manager Dave Gerry expressed his delight at his team's achievement. He presented his three main trophies to Dan Bott (Most Improved) Lee Horwood (Highest Goal Scorer) and Dom Abbott (Player of the Year).
Senior club secretary and referee, Ivor Phillips presented Jackson Birch from the Under-14s with his Level 8 Refereeing Certificate and an engraved whistle which was a gift from the Youth Committee to commemorate his achievement.
And finally the Under-16s trophies were presented to Ashley Parker (Most Improved) Ryan Lee (Highest Goal Scorer) and Dan Bowden (Player of the Year)
Each Youth Team also presented thank you gifts to their managers to show their appreciation for the time and effort they donate to running the teams.
Holsworthy Youth wishes to thank all their existing and new sponsors, Mary Chidley, Ralph Bale and the ladies in the canteen for their support this season.
