PLANS for a suite of events to mark the occasion of 80 years since VE Day in Holsworthy has been announced by its town council.
Starting at 9am with the final event commencing at 9pm on May 8, 2025, a series of events for the community to take part in to play their part in remembering the sacrifice of those who fought for the United Kingdom’s freedom will take place in the town.
At 9am, the day begins with a proclamation and flag raising ceremony outside of St Peter and St Paul’s church.
This is followed at 11am by an act of remembrance at the Tree Memorial in Stanhope Park.
In the evening, from 5.30pm, a street celebration dubbed a ‘free’ fish supper and family entertainment will take place at The Square prior to the events culminating at 9pm with a tribute and lighting of the beacon outside of St Peter and St Paul’s church.
A spokesperson for Holsworthy Town Council said: “Holsworthy Town Council invites you to commemorate VE Day on Thursday, May 8 with a day of remembrance, music and celebration in Holsworthy.
“Come together as we honour history and celebrate our community.”
