A LOCAL parent and businesss woman from Holsworthy has donated more than £2,000 to a good cause after completing the London Marathon.
On April 21, Lauren Woodridge took to the capital to take on the challenge of running 26 miles for Holsworthy Youth Club.
As Lauren limbered up at the start line, back in Holsworthy the youth work team organised an event at the club to allow the young people to cheer Lauren on and follow her progress on the big screens at the club.
Lauren had set an ambitious target of raising £1,000 for the club, however, thanks to her hard work she returned with a cheque for more than double that amount. Both the young people and staff were thrilled, as her fundraising total was a massive £2,003.38.
Lead worker Caroline Down was there to receive the cheque and the whole centre took part in giving Lauren a celebration with cards, flowers and gifts.
Commenting on Lauren’s donation, Caroline said: "It is hard to express how big of a difference this incredible fundraising effort will make to the club. We regularly see 70 to 80 young people at sessions every week and this money will go towards renewing equipment and supplies which will keep the session exciting and engaging for all the young people that come through our doors.
“We are very much indebted to Lauren for all her amazing efforts and so very grateful for this boost to our funding."
However, for Lauren there is no time to rest as she has already applied for a ballot place to run again next year, and there is no doubt that the youth centre will be cheering her on once again.
Caroline added: "The youth centre is open on Tuesdays for juniors. On Wednesdays all young people are welcome to attend. There is always lots going on; pool, music tuition, table tennis, consoles, craft activities, food and much more.
“Everyone is welcome to pop in and see the club and we are always looking for volunteers -full training, support and biscuits are provided!”
