HOLSWORTHY Community College has recently been presented with the Devon Inclusion Award which acknowledges all the support given to its pupils with specific needs.
A rigorous set of criteria had to be covered in order to receive the award and the whole process was assessed over two years.
The school is now confident that every pupil can access the curriculum as a result of the many strategies which are in place in every teaching group at the college.
These strategies can range from printing work on cream coloured paper for pupils with dyslexia, to voice activated software for pupils with physical disabilities.
There are three levels to the award, developing, established and enhanced. The award panel, which consisted of staff from the Dyslexia Centre at Crediton and members of the County Educational Psychologist team, agreed that the school was worthy of the Established Level.
This level is usually awarded to primary schools, who by nature can be more inclusive, so this is a great achievement for staff at the college.
The award will be placed in the reception area, until it is to be reviewed after three years time.
