Holsworthy Carnival is traditionally the last carnival of the season, and will take place on Saturday, November 18, this year.
A spokesperson said: “This year there will not be a Carnival Queen, but we have a Carnival Prince and a Carnival Princess who will be sharing a float. They are seven year old Trixy Geary, and four-year-old Reuben Bloor. Trixy attends Holsworthy Primary School and is in Year 3. Reuben goes to Clawton Primary School and is in the Hedgehog class.”
The Princess and Prince will be crowned at 6.45pm on the balcony of the White Hart Hotel. Before then, there will be a street party outside the White Hart — with games for children.
After the crowning ceremony, the Mocean Samba band will be playing in The Square, from about 7pm, before going on to join the carnival procession.
Also in the procession this year will be Bideford Youth Pipe Drums and, playing together, Holsworthy and Launceston Town Bands.
The main carnival procession will leave Holsworthy industrial estate at 6.45pm and will be joined by the walking entries from the football club at approximately 7pm. The procession will arrive in the town centre sometime after that.
It is not too late to enter the carnival – and details and registration forms can be found on the Carnival website at: www.holsworthycarnival.co.uk
There will be significant road closures for the carnival on November 18, and people who intend to travel to, or through, Holsworthy on that afternoon and evening are advised to check the carnival website for details and alternative routes.
The carnival’s “Spot the Deliberate Mistake” competition is being replaced by a “Find the Cuddly Toy” competition this year.
From Monday, November 13, there will be cuddly toys hiding in shop windows all over town. They will have medals with numbers on them and if you find all of them you could win a prize. Entry forms will be available from Coombes the Outfitters in The Square from Monday, November 13 — or can be downloaded from the carnival website.
