Following the success of the 2008 charity challenge 'I'm a cadet...get me out of here!' during which members of the Holsworthy detachment of Devon Army Cadet Force were sponsored to eat an array of unusual items including worms, squirrel and stinging nettles, young people from the unit have presented a cheque for £450 to the Calvert Trust on Exmoor. The Calvert Trust offers adventurous activity breaks to people with special needs or disability, and the donation will be used to create a bursary to assist a young person from the Holsworthy area with payment of an activity break, be it as an individual or part of an organised special needs group. Detachment Commander Lt Sarah Biss said: "We are very proud of our cadets for rising to such an unusual challenge. Citizenship training is an important aspect of what the Army Cadet Force can offer to young people and helping those less fortunate than themselves is an admirable quality which we encourage at Holsworthy."
