Eleven basic training Army Cadets at Holsworthy have been presented with their basic pass badges and certificates having completed six months of progressive training including assessments in drill shooting fieldcraft and first aid.
Cadet Serjeant Lydia Girdler (17) received her senior Signals qualification and Cadet Eleanor Poole(13) was awarded “Cadet of the month.”
The awards followed an evening exercise with 31 cadets traveling to Survival Combat Games near Torrington for the detachment annual fieldcraft competition incorporating laser tag in large woodlands won by “Romeo Section” lead by Corporal Caitlin Braund(17) .
At the recent Town Council meeting Corporal Braund was appointed “Mayor’s Cadet” for 2023 a ceremonial civic duty she will share with Serjeant Girdler due to study and work commitments.” (See page 33 for more).
Following a recent recruiting drive the detachment has enrolled 9 new cadets. The next opportunity to enroll will be in October.
Detachment Commander Lt Jim Harvey said “ The cadets are making great progress and our new recruits are rising to all the challenges presented to them with enthusiasm. I would like to thank Holsworthy Community College for supporting recruitment and Brian Moore at Survival Combat Games for the excellent activity run for our members.”
