Free public swimming sessions are being offered in pools across Cornwall.
Leisure centre operator Better says it’s offering the free-of-charge, weekly slots, in order to improve water skills in the wake of lockdown closures caused by the pandemic.
The offer comes in the midst of ac consultation over the future of leisure in Cornwall, and campaigns to save four of the county’s leisure centres and the hydrotherapy pool at St Austell from closure.
The free sessions will be offered at pools including those under threat.
GLL, the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs the centres, is working in partnership with Active Cornwall and Cornwall Council on the countywide initiative which is being funded by the Active Recovery Fund Project.
“Swimming is an important life skill – particularly in a county that has such an extensive coastline,” said James Curry, GLL’s Head of Service in Cornwall.
“Each of our centres will provide a free, weekly hour-long session that is open to anyone.”
Session times and start dates vary, and booking is advisable for all swimmers, says GLL, including under 3s.
