EVERYONE at Halwill Primary School was overjoyed at the school being awarded a grade of overall 'good' by Ofsted with a substantial number of outstanding areas. The report frequently refers to outstanding teaching at the top of the school and good teaching across the school. It praises the headteacher for 'strong and effective leadership' and the governing body for its role in monitoring the school effectively and keeping it to account. The areas deemed outstanding by Ofsted were the way in which pupils adopt healthy lifestyles and feel safe. Other outstanding features of the school were the way in which the school prepares pupils for a viable economic future and most notably the children's behaviour which was commented upon as excellent in the inspection. The school was also highly praised for the wide range of activities it provides for its pupils and the good pupil voice in the form of a pro-active school council. The inspection team also praised the Early Years Foundation Stage which was deemed to be securely good both in terms of leadership and provision. The school celebrated its success with a special presentation by governors to the children of the school — thanking them for their great success in this inspection.
