GIRL Guiding around the world celebrated World Thinking Day on February 22, a joint birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, founders of the Scout and Guide movements.

Each year, World Thinking Day has a different theme, and this year’s theme was ‘grow’, with the aim to grow the membership of Girl Guiding all over the world.

First Jacobstow Rainbows, Guides and the recently reformed Brownies celebrated on Saturday, February 18 with a fun filled trip to Trethorne Leisure Farm.

All the girls had a fantastic afternoon, playing on all of the equipment both inside and out, as well as seeing all the animals, including the ‘super cute’ baby pygmy goats and unnamed calves.

The afternoon ended with all in attendance renewing their promise around the edge of the ball pool and jumping in the balls. This was extra special for Becky Shute, who made her promise as an adult leader, and also several of the guides who remade their promises for the awards they get when they have been members for one year and three years.

Two one-year members made their promises on the death slide, whilst three three-year members made their promises on the edge of the ball pool.

A spokesman for the group said: “It is hoped this kind of opportunity will be offered to more girls in the area, but in order to do so, the groups need more adults to volunteer their time, not only providing opportunities for the girls, but giving the volunteers the opportunity to make new friends, go on adventures and see the joy in the faces of the girls when they have achieved something new.”
