THE Sunday service of Remembrance at St Breward was led by the vicar Rev Canon Sherry Bryan.

Apart from the amazing and imaginative flower displays by Fran Calver, that were particularly poignant due to inclusion of original cap tallys from various Royal Navy ships that local historian Brian Hill has collected, also on display was Brian Hill’s scale model of HMS Invincible, a battlecruiser that was sunk at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, 100 years ago — the model took him over four years to make from scratch and complete.

There was also a film about The Battle of the Somme, a listening to a song ‘The Somme’ by Marti Sweeney, and the St Breward Silver Band, which apart from leading all the hymns sung, played a selection of music of the congregation, including ‘Nimrod’ by Edward Elgar.

Band member and villager, Clare Teague, played the Last Post and Reveille.

The St Breward Guides and Brownies created their poppy covered cross, a tradition now well established for the group, as well as carrying the various standards in the church.
