THE Launceston Foodbank base on Newport Industrial Estate was officially opened on Saturday, 10 December by the Mayor of Launceston, Cllr Rob Tremain, who was accompanied by the Mayoress, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Cllr and Mrs Dave Gordon, and a number of other town and county councillors.
The Mayor congratulated the Foodbank management committee, churches, school and community groups who had responded so magnificently, in such a short time, to make the facility possible.
Cllr Tremain was welcomed by Keith Roberts, chair of Launceston Foodbank Ltd. In his introduction he said: "We can be proud of the way in which the whole community has responded to the challenge made by Launceston Churches Together in August.
"Through the work of an enthusiastic management committee and the response of councillors, voluntary organisations, schools, churches and individuals we now have the premises, food and volunteers to serve those in crisis need of food, and to do this in a very effective way."
