The ladies of Bude Flower Club had an excellent day out at Trigon Farm for their annual summer outing.
Trigon Farm is based in Derriton, Holsworthy and grows sustainable flowers and veggies using permaculture principles and no dig. It is run by Mariana and Al Nastase and their son Seb who were very engaging and hospitable.
The morning began with a welcome coffee or tea during which Mariana and Al gave an interesting talk about how they started up and the principles behind their farming methods. Then Mariana gave a tour of her dried flower cabin. It was filled with many varieties of dried flowers in an array of colours. She explained the drying method and showed us beautiful examples of their use in wreaths wall-hangings and arrangements.
Next, Al took us on a tour of the flower garden and growing tunnels. There was a wonderful variety of flowers as well as many varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers and gourds.
It was time for lunch with a choice of BBQ chicken skewers or pork ribs served with delicious potato salad, Greek salad and beetroot salad sourced from their garden. For dessert, we had rhubarb crumble and custard and a refreshing cup of tea or coffee.
Before we went home, each member could fill a bucket with their choice of flowers for the special price of £10. Many took up this offer and went home very happy with their choice as can be seen in the photograph of our chairman, Joan Trewin.
A very enjoyable and informative day was had by all. Trigon Farm is well worth a visit. Thank you Al and Mariana.
There is no meeting in August. The next meeting is on Tuesday, September 19, at 2pm when Susan Griffiths will be demonstrating ‘The Power of Pink’.
