WELL-known popular farmer Graham Hughes, of New Hedges, is swapping his milking overalls for his running shoes!
Graham, 64, is running the Cardiff 10k on September 6 to raise money for Ward c@ Liver Unit at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff, because he owes them his life.
Twelve months ago, the father of three was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour and given only weeks to live.
Thankfully, Cardiff and Vale ULHB were willing to take on his case and he now lives to tell the tale.
Graham, who is married to Alwen, vowed when given the all clear that he would raise money for the liver unit to try to help others.
He said: "I have only praise for the staff on C2 ward and my family and I owe my life to all involved in my care.
"I used to love running at school, so given this second chance of life, I'm going to dust off my trainers at 64 years of age and see if my arthritic hips can run a 10k in under an hour!
"I hope my training will pay off and I am very grateful for everyone's support, especially my coach Stewart Pearce, my best friend John Butland and my daughter Sian and son Gareth who will be running with me on the day. I hope to see many friendly faces on the day to cheer me over the line (or carry me!)"
