A SEVENTY-six-year-old cleaner from Chudleigh has survived the Nepal earthquake that hit the Kathmandu region on Saturday.

Nora Arscott was visiting friends in the area when the deadly quake struck. It has so far claimed the lives of more than 5,000 people and affected more than eight million.

Granddaughter Claire Watson described the agonising hours waiting for news as 'horrible'.
