Bude Jobcentre are hoping to help get people’s new year off to a good start with their upcoming Jobsfair.
On Tuesday, February 6, ‘The Venue’ in Bude will be filled with employers hoping to recruit some new faces.
From 9.30am to 12.30pm, work coaches from the Jobcentre will be in attendance to support job seekers at the event. For those on Universal Credit more financial support is available, as people can keep more of what they earn, while parents can receive increased childcare payments. Work coaches will help with calculations to show just how much better off people can be in work; and can provide information about funding for childcare.
Among employers, one very exciting first-time visitor is Google.
Simon Hilton, from the national employer and partnership team, said: “We are really excited that a team from Google have agreed to attend the event. It’s the first time Google have visited this area. They will run a variety of workshops during the morning. It will be a great boost to job seekers to get advice direct from such a high-profile organisation.”
Bude employer adviser, Keith Hinderwell, said: “As the year kicks off the focus is on helping employers grow their business by opening up jobcentres for on-site recruitment, and also inviting them to events like the Jobsfair. There remains plenty of vacancies across the Bude and Holsworthy area and Jobcentre work coaches stand ready to support people, of whatever health condition or age, take the first steps back to work.”
Bude Jobcentre manager, Sue Kessell provided some advice for jobseekers, added: “Please come to the Jobsfair dressed ready for an interview. First impressions really do count. Bring up to date copies of your CV with you ready to hand to employers. Also be sure to have your ID available as everyone needs to prove that they have the right to work in the UK.
“Most people feel nervous at interviews but try to smile and be positive. Attitude and enthusiasm are often more valued than qualifications.”
