Glendinning, the Westcountry's largest independent supplier of quarry and concrete products, has purchased the hardstone quarry business of Penhill Quarry & Haulage Limited based near Bude, for an undisclosed sum.
The family owned business of Penhill, which recently gained planning consent to work further reserves at its Pigsdon Quarry, produces a range of hardcores, building and rockery stone and high PSV (Polished Stone Value) hardstone aggregate.
These high PSV aggregates are approved by Devon County Council and Cornwall County Council for use in asphalt macadams on the roads throughout the two counties.
This acquisition not only maintains the family owned status of the business but also complements the major investment Glendinning is making in a new asphalt plant at its Linhay Hill Quarry, Ashburton, which is currently undergoing commissioning.
