A man who caused damage in the garden of a Pembroke Dock property whilst still drunk at 10 in the morning has been told the offence will cost him over £700.
Twenty-seven-year-old Dean Lewis Haughey, of Park Hall, Carmarthen, pleaded guilty to a charge of damaging plant pots and decking belonging to Timothy Gould, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that on May 3, at around 10 am, the complainant heard a banging noise coming from the back of his house and saw a male who he didn't recognise standing in his garden gesticulating with his arms to come outside.
"The complainant Mr. Gould didn't know this man at all, and described him as being in a strange mood, as if he was drunk or drugged," he told magistrates.
"The police were called and the defendant was arrested as he had thrown a couple of plant pots around and caused damage to the decking area estimated to be £100 worth."
In an interview, Mr. Haughey told the police that he had no idea why he was in the garden, and that he had driven down the day before to Pembroke Dock, gone out with friends and drunk excessively.
The defendant's solicitor, Mark Layton, told the court that his client had gone down to the town to watch the big boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao on TV at a friend's house.
"As the fight was broadcast live from Las Vegas, it didn't come on until around 4 am, so Mr. Haughey had been drinking throughout the night and early hours of the morning, and was still drunk at 10 am," he explained.
"He doesn't remember a thing about the incident and didn't know the complainant, but wishes to apologise to him through the court," added Mr. Layton.
Magistrates told the defendant that the night out had proved an expensive outing for him, and fined him £335 for the offence and ordered him to pay compensation of £100 to the complainant.
Mr. Haughey was also ordered to pay a criminal court charge of £150, costs of £85 and a £33 victim surcharge.
