RAIN might have dampened the general election announcement on Wednesday, May 22, but not the celebrations for Antony and Sally Brown.

The "gap year grandparents", both 59, arrived back at Bude lifeboat station, from where they had departed 374 days earlier, to a heroes' welcome by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and Cornwall Air Ambulance. They have fundraised for the two charities on their year-long hike around the British coastline.

Live musicians played them over the finish line with a rendition of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.

"We've spent all our savings on this walk and are now broke, but it's been worth it," says Antony. "We really wanted to do it and there were a couple of points where it might not have happened, but it's been a great adventure and we want to continue to raise money for these fantastic charities.

"We call ourselves 'gap-year grandparents'. Our kids did it, so we can do it.

"Obviously the country will be gripped by the election now. But it's never too late to donate! I hope that people will still spread the word about our walk."
