A LADY will continue her fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her mother with a seven-mile walk this weekend.

Tina Urquhart, who lives in Callington, has been raising money for the charity for some years as her mother, Dilys Todd, previously of Week St Mary, had the disease.

In the past, Tina has completed a firewalk and two walking marathons from Stonehenge to Avebury, and in June 2015, completed a solo walk, coast to coast along Hadrians Wall, raising money for both the Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research, after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer in November 2014 and having treatment.

This February Tina took on ‘Sugar Free February’ for Cancer Research and this June she climbed Mount Snowdon at midnight for the Alzheimer’s charity.

However, this time Tina has decided to do something a little different for the charity and has organised a Memory Walk together with her work colleagues from Bowden Derra Park, a residential home for adults with learning disabilities in Polyphant, where Tina is a deputy manager.

The Memory Walk from Screetch Owl Sanctuary, Goss Moor will take place this Saturday, September 8. More than 40 walkers are registered to take part — many are staff, residents, families and friends of Bowden Derra Park. A few will be walking to raise money for their own chosen charities. Fordham

Finance Group has kindly agreed to provide medals for the walkers

Tina said: “We are hoping to raise a lot of money for Alzheimer’s. Many, many people have been touched in some way by the disease and we, as a group, want to do anything we can do to help find a cure and support those people who are suffering and their families.”
