Get into this Christmas spirit will be easy this year thanks to a Christmas musical extravaganza from the Belmont Ensemble and Trafalgar Sinfonia, who will be playing 16 Christmas concerts at the art-deco masterpiece, which is Freemasons’ Hall this December.
The Grand Temple, with its stunning mosaics and breathtaking star spangled ceiling, is the perfect setting for the first concerts, which will take place on Sunday, December 4. Titled ‘Vivaldi – The Four Seasons by Candlelight at Christmas’, the performances include Vivaldi – The Four Seasons, Corelli – Christmas Concerto, and Christmas carols for the audience to sing along with.
On December 10, the audience will be treated to a candlelit performance of the ‘Vintage Christmas by Candlelight’. The concert will include Christmas classics, such as White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and many more nostalgic hits, performed by Patricia Hammond, Matt Redman and players in period costume.
In addition, ‘Carols for Shoppers by Candlelight’ will be performed by the singers and musicians of Belmont Ensemble, Trafalgar Sinfonia, Belmont Voices and 1VOX. The repertoire will include Once in Royal David’s City, Ding Dong Merrily on High and Jingle Bells. Late night Christmas shoppers can take a break by attending ‘Carols by Candlelight’, which will take place on Sunday, December 11.
The whole family can enjoy ‘A Dickensian Christmas by Candlelight’ on December 17. Banish any “bah humbug” with this candlelit performance of Christmas music to get you into the festive spirit, along with readings from Charles Dickens’s classic novel A Christmas Carol. The afternoon event will be performed by the Covent Garden Carollers. Later that same evening ‘Vivaldi – The Four Seasons by Candlelight at Christmas’ will be performed by the singers and musicians of Belmont Ensemble, Trafalgar Sinfonia, Belmont Voices and 1VOX.
The next day ‘Children’s Christmas with The English Chamber Choir’ will take place; designed especially for children to enjoy, featuring favourite carols and Christmas music, the event is sure to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit.
Finally, on Christmas Eve a final concert will see Belmont Ensemble of London and Trafalgar Sinfonia performing ‘Christmas Eve Carols by Candlelight’.
