CORNWALL’S leisure centre operator GLL says it is keen to recruit more lifeguards for the summer – and it’s offering fully- funded training for candidates at Newquay Waterworld.
There are jobs available in centres across Cornwall too, for those successfully completing their qualification.
GLL, operating under the Better brand, is a not-for-profit social enterprise that runs 13 leisure facilities in Cornwall on behalf of the Council. The organisation’s National Pools and Water Safety Manager Alan Ritchie visited Newquay Waterworld this week to see the COVID-secure course in action.
“Almost all our senior management team have taken on a lifeguarding role at some point in their career, and learning a skill that saves lives in water is undoubtedly a key qualification – especially for anyone interested in climbing up the leisure industry job ladder,” he said. “We take pride in ensuring all our staff are trained to the highest standards, so this is a real opportunity and we’ve been delighted with the
response so far.
“This summer is undoubtedly going to be a very busy one for Cornwall, with thousands of people choosing to holiday here. Our centres are proving very popular, with members only too pleased to get back into our pools and gyms. After so many months of lockdown, it’s wonderful to see. That’s why we’re eager to recruit more lifeguards in Cornwall and why we’re providing the necessary training in Newquay.”
There are Better leisure centres in the following locations: Bude, Wadebridge, Saltash, Launceston, Liskeard, Newquay, Truro, Falmouth, Helston, Bodmin, St Austell and St Ives.
