HealthasPire nutrition centre has teamed up with Milford Fish Docks to offer free cookery classes for Pembrokeshire children over the summer holidays. Commencing in July, the Milford Haven based cookery school will have 12 free placements every week - so that's space for 72 children over the summer.
The course is hands-on and children will be making sugar-free muffins and learn how easy it can be too cook a fish pie - and how tasty the end results are. The lessons take three hours and will include a fascinating look at the journey fish take from the sea to our plates. They will also look at some of the everyday simple swaps you can make to become healthier. Lunch will be the fish pie and there will be goodies to take home.
Places are open to children aged seven-11 who live in Pembrokeshire. They are free, but spaces are limited so book early. To enter your child, simply email your name and address with your child's details to [email protected]">[email protected]. Alternatively, go down to the HealthasPire stand at the Milford Fish Festival tomorrow (Saturday) with your details, or to find out more about the lessons.
Owner and nutritionist Ellen Picton, of HealthasPire, said: "I am delighted to be launching this cookery school for children - my aim is to show how easy healthy eating and cooking can be and give them skills they can use for life. The school has long been a dream for me and I'm so grateful for the support from Milford Fish Docks in making this a reality."
Alaric Churchill, manager at Milford Fish Docks, said: "Fish has played such an important part of Milford's heritage - but it's also a vital part of the town's future. We are the largest fishing port in Wales and we are investing significantly in its development. We want more people to be able to access the great fish that are landed here and supporting initiatives, such as HealthasPire's cookery school, will help us to spread the word."
